Here’s a great article on the Dragon Box releases With the originals selling to collectors for literally thousands of dollars, Funimation is now reproducing them for the first time in the United States. Originally produced in very limited quantities in Japan only, the incredibly rare Dragon Box releases have long been the ultimate prize for avid Dragon Ball Z collectors. Well… my waiting and patience has now paid off:Īmazingly, Funimation has decided to release the "true definitive" version of the Dragon Ball Z series, Japan's ‘Dragon Box’ Sets. So I inevitably decided still, not to buy and resorted again to not owning the series for a while longer. I never actually did thankfully, something just seemed cheap about these particular releases. ![]() even standing in the store with one or two in my hands at times on the verge of walking up to the cashier. I was very tempted to start buying them then, and although I came very close. I basically resorted to not owning the series for a while… then when Funimation released their newer ‘Digitally Remastered’ sets between 2007 & 2008 as seen here: but it just seemed such an enormous undertaking, especially since by that point the sets we had amassed were now out of print and selling as ‘original released collectors items’ for a heck of a lot more money than we had paid (which was already pricey to begin with). but we had the full sets of the DVD equivalent, I’m sure you get the idea.)Īnyhow, ever since our split I have hemmed and hawed about re-buying the series. But when we broke up in late ’03 or early ’04, we split up most of our jointly acquired possessions, which included the anime. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed watching it and started buying the individual releases with the collectors boxes as they came out. I’m new to the club and wanted to share info on a new run of the releases I just found out about!Ī little history on my DBZ experience, I had heard of and read about Dragon Ball & DBZ in the early to mid nineties, but didn’t actually see any episodes until the Cartoon Network/Toonami airing around 1999 – 2001ish.
